There are questions you may have about yourself, what's happened in the past, why it's a struggle, and how can it get better. These are questions many people have had wrestled with. I am one of them.
I am from Houston but lived in California for many years growing up. As a second-generation American of Vietnamese descent (born in the United States and raised by parents who were born abroad), navigating two different sets of languages, expectations, values, and roles was difficult. Living in a community where gang violence and poverty were prevalent and witnessing alcohol abuse, out-of-control anger, and family separation made it more difficult. There are things that happen to us, whether we're born into it, born with it, or are a result of other people's actions. There are wounds and there are scars.
The process of understanding the impact of the past and of healing takes time, work, and people you can trust. It can feel very frighting to let someone know what's going on and to really see you. I know it takes a lot of courage. There comes a time when a person has had enough and is willing and hoping for change. This is a process I've undertaken, and later through my work as a counselor, I have had the opportunity to walk alongside my clients as they take their steps towards relief and growth.
My approach to therapy is that I would like to get to know you, your background, your current struggles, and your hopes and goals. I will listen, hear you, and then partner with you as you gain the clarity, practical tools, and support needed to more fully express your strengths and purpose.
If you are experiencing discouraging thoughts or are in a pattern, situation or relationship that is mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually draining, please know that it doesn't have to stay that way. Let someone know who will listen without judgement, who can provide professional feedback on your past and present and guidance on how to move forward. Let's meet and get a clearer understanding of what's going on and let's explore solutions together.
